KARDITSA GARDENS / CHP HYDROPONIC GREENHOUSE
ORION carried out the design and construction of a 7,5 hectare hydroponic greenhouse Karditsa Gardens SA in Karditsa, Greece, as a turn-key project. ORION also holds a major share of the investment.
One of the largest high-tech greenhouses in Greece, it is a state-of-the-art project for hydroponic tomato cultivation. The cultivation lasts all year round and can exceed a production of 70 kg / m2.
In order to meet the thermal needs of the greenhouse, a CHP unit (Cogenaration of heat and power unit) unit was installed, with a total capacity of 4 MW. The CHP unit consumes natural gas and produces electricity and thermal energy through hot water. The hot water is stored in a buffer tank and transferred to the greenhouse according to its thermal needs.
The flue gases emitted by the engines also feed the greenhouse for the plants fertilization.
Offices, packing facilities, a cooling room, and an irrigation facility were built.
